Description
Mujeres a Través del Tiempo celebrates the lives of sixteen pioneering South Texas women immortalized in Arnold Gonzáles Sr.’s public mural at Texas A&M University–Kingsville. Ranchers, educators, artists, politicians, and community activists, these women navigated economic, political, and artistic arenas long dominated by men.
Edited by Susan L. Roberson, this collection of essays fills in the gaps between the mural’s depiction and the full stories of these Tejanas, exploring their trials, triumphs, and contributions to South Texas history. Covering the region between the Nueces River and the Rio Grande, the book highlights how these women forged leadership and creative spaces, challenging an Anglo-dominated narrative of the area. The final essay brings the focus to the present, spotlighting female students at Texas A&M University–Kingsville and envisioning a future of expanded opportunities for women across borders.
